I have been introduced to the funny anecdote about a woman, who had one hundred pairs of shoes and only one pair of feet, many times. But if you’re talking to me about high heel shoes, you need to know, there will be no room for logic or reason. High heel shoes are my passion. And my pain.
I have loved high heel shoes since I can remember. Even as a little girl I adored the recognizable sound of high heel shoes hitting the hard floor. That familiar sound that represents to many thing. Elegance, style, prestige, a sense of business, self-esteem, sex appeal. Perhaps someone recognizes stubbornness in that sound. Perhaps arrogance. Perhaps coldness. But in any case, it’s a sound that rarely keeps anyone indifferent.
As much as it may seem that a woman”s love for shoes is one of the most stereotypical things and as much as we can all agree with the paradox of a 100 pairs of shoes and 1 pair of feet, I cannot deny the fact that high heel shoes are such an integral part of my personal style that they are closely linked to my mood. Not only in a sense of how I feel when I’m wearing them, but how I must feel to actually put them on. It’s a double-edged emotional connection, so to speak.
A work colleague of mine noticed that some time ago. After observing me at work for years, she came to a very lucid conclusion: when I come to work in flats, she can safely assume that I’m probably having a bad day. It’s a good sign she better just does travel work that day to avoid my potential grumpiness. I can’t confirm this observation is true in a 100 % of the cases – especially since I have recently developed a strong affection for sporty shoes – but I can confirm that to wear high heel shoes, I need to feel – the right way. I need to be in the right element. I need to feel them.
Feel what exactly? That mixture of self-esteem, drive and the feeling that I want to sieze the day. If all is how it should be, the world in high heels can only look better.
When I’m asked what kind of style I usually wear high heel shoes with, I usually just say that high heels go with (almost) everything. What’s even better … a good high heel shoe will make even a boring or a bit clumsily put together styling a lot more attractive.
