This amazing business journey began after a set of unexpected circumstances. In my family house, a house where I grew up, a small place was set up to be rented out as a studio apartment.  At that point it was nothing but bare walls and the most basic installations, still taking into consideration how it could be equipped to serve as an fully functional home.

The more we planned around with the interior, the more it started to show that this little apartment could actually be turned into a cute little beauty salon, one that I have been not-so-secretly dreaming about for a long time. I slept on it, gave it a bit more consideration and then finally decided – let’s make this boutique beauty salon idea come to life!

Since the very beginning, my primary wish was that this would not be just another beauty salon. I wanted to have a salon that would, at least in the very essence of it, function a little differently. More intimately. More atmospheric. Without the routinized, industrial process of just quickly and impersonally ramping up one customer after another.

With that in mind, my initial picture of this beauty salon was a small, gently lit environment. A place of relaxation. Without the hassle, without any crowding, without any rush. A place where the customer would never feel like she (or he) is about to be quickly processed with whatever cosmetic service and then hurried along the way. It was basically a type of beauty salon where I would want to get my manicures and pedicures and eyelashes done.

Once all the ideas have fallen into place, once everything has been decided and carefully thought out, it was time to make it actually happen. And so Bodylicious was born.

Years ago, when I worked in a couple of larger cosmetic salons, I have discovered, that this work is more that just performing a specific cosmetic service. Customers in that environment are actually in a very vulnerable position, especially in today’s world, obsessed with looks and youth and the cult of the body. They come to you, to fulfill the need to look better. To make that work, you, as a professional beautician, need to first get to the very basic, pure, unaltered state of this customer. This is why customers in cosmetic salons often drop all pretense. They get relaxed more than they are allowed to be in the outside world. Some start talking about themselves, about their most intimate life details. Others just unplug their minds and allow themselves to completely forget about the world around them. Some fall asleep.

There is something incredibly precious seeing a customer allowing herself to be completely relaxed and absorbed into the atmosphere. Seeing that she allows herself to just enjoy the process. She knows she is safe and in good hands. It’s the greatest gift you can get in this line of business. And it’s the reason why I enjoy running a beauty salon even now, after 8 years of hard work and dedication.

I love being able to offer exactly what I have always imaged a beauty salon should be. A place crafted by my own standards, which I have believed in for many years before this idea even came to life.

To offer customers all I would myself appreciate when visiting a beauty salon, I also had to find the right professional beautician. And I have to admit – it was a not an easy task. For as long as salon has been opened, in all these 8 years, I have met numerous incredible, talented and devoted beauticians – and just as many unprofessional, lazy, scheming individuals, who will forever serve as caution when judging new individuals in any business field.

Today, all is as good as it can be. We have survived the lockdown period due to coronavirus epidemic. A professional beautician who has been working at the salon for some years now, has long become the heart and soul of Bodylicious. I believe she is one of the major, if not the key reason, why so many customers become regulars immediately after their first visit. Caring and pampering in a safe and relaxed environment, protected from the outside world along with  services, performed by a kind and intelligent beautician, is exactly how I have hoped this project would turn out those 8 years ago when beauty salon was just an idea. Finally, it’s a true reality.
